  • “These are the games I play” (March of the Falsettos)

Lot’s of playtime over the last couple of days. The indoor playspace at the local rec center is still great on rainy days – which we have had alot of lately. Friday night after work we did our normal thing of taking the kids to the kids space and then Nanna and Poppi joined us for a pizza dinner at “sausage factory”.

I think I mentioned a few days ago that Evan now uses the word “mine” quite a bit. Funny thing is that it is no too soon, because it happens that as Sophie learns to motor herself around and grab the things Evan has, the word “mine” has to be used quite a lot!

Saturday afternoon we went to the California Academy of Sciences again with our friends Doug, Dennis and Lonan. Highlights at the museum this time included the “Kid’s Cove” play area and the aquarium.

  • “I love a Piano” (White Christmas)

The week is going along smoothly. Nanna and Poppy are back in San Francisco and watching the kids Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Lolo and Lola are watching them on Tuesday and Thursday. It seems to be a good mix for the kids. They are both happy which also happens to coincide with both of them being cold free at the moment! We have also had 2 full nights of sleep – so hopefully we are back on some sort of trend now.

  • “I’m getting big but not old” (Big – the musical)

Sometimes it’s hard for me to believe that a week has gone by, and the child you had last week is gone, and a new older child with a bunch of new talents has taken thier place. This last week has been one of them. Evan is saying things he has never said before, climbing on things he has never climbed before, and entertaining himself in whole new ways!

Not quite sure what he is doing in this picture, but I thought it was pretty cute, and demonstrates that the concept and word “mine” has taken hold pretty strong!

    "Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!" (Pocohantos)

Last weekend we went to the playground in Golden Gate park with our gay dad’s group. We had a great time, and didn’t take many pictures, but got this great one of Evan climbing the rope ladder. He was able to do by himself for the first time!

"If you keep your goal in site, you can climb to any height" (Assasins)

This might be a sign that his dad’s are on computers too often. Evan mastered the art of opening up a laptop that is laying around and turning it on months ago. Now that he is able to climb up on the stools at the counter in the kitchen, he has found a new favorite toy – the computer in the kitchen!

  • “Little girls, Little girls” (Annie)

Another camera, some good photos, and only 1 new post in the last week means that I am a bit behind in posting some of my favorites so I am trying to catch up on Saturday morning!

Sophie is 10 months old now. (8 months by due date – but we pretty much have stopped adjusting her birthday when we look at milestones now) She still has no teeth, but is doing pretty well gumming some of her favorites like cherrios and rice crackers.

"When you are smiling it's so delicious" (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang)

One cute little girl, one gay dad with a talent for making hats, one sudden rainstorm, and one red clothe napkin – Voila! – we have the picture below. (taken by friends in Hawaii – so we just got it the other day)

"Its just a little bitty piss ant country place" (Best Little Whorehous in Texas)
  • “It’s the little things you do together”- Company

For a few days, Evan was having a tough time “playing nicely” with Sophie. He just seemed to want to push her over and sit on her. This morning something seemed to click and he was treating her much more like a playmate and less like a bean bag chair.

"Put on a happy face" (Bye Bye Birdie)
    "Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome" (Cabaret)
"If the meal includes a deal, accept I may" – Kiss me Kate
    "Born to hand jive" (Grease)

    The Island of Kauai

This was our first visit to Kauai and we definitely thought the natural beauty of the island was far better then Oahu and Maui. We took a drive to Waimea Canyon which was amazing. We got to see a monk seal laying on the beach in front of the condo from about 20 feet away. We also took a train ride around a sugar plantation (twice – because Evan loved it so much).

    Kiahuna Plantation

    Kiahuna Plantation beach

We loved staying here. It was perfect for families, and perfect for us. The condo was great, and had an awesome Lanai that lead out onto one of the many large grassy areas. We chose #44 in particular because the Lanai happened to have a fence around it, meaning Evan could go in and out without wandering away unnoticed, yet with the gate open, he could run down the hill onto the grassy area. The beach and beach hut were a perfect 5 minute stroll over a couple little bridges and through the grassy lawns. The beach hut had towels, chairs, beach toys, and snacks. The pool area was at the tennis club across the street. The pool was perfect because it had a large sandy area, pool slide, and pool side restaurant service! We went to the pool almost every day. Evan loves the water and quickly learned a new word, “slide” which he would say over and over (with a little bit of a “SH” sounds so it sounds like “shlide”.

    Luau – Friday night

Our last night on the island we decided to go the Luau at the Sheraton Hotel next door. We went with friends Theresa and Ann, and their beautiful daughter May. It was windy, and ended up raining on everyone just as we were getting our food – but we had fun!

  • Run, Freedom, Run!—Urinetown

This is the first post from our vacation in Hawaii. We are on the island of Kauai, and the condo we are staying in has some great lawns for Evan to run around in. This video captures another first – and that is Evan actually kicking the ball and running after it to kick it again!
